Service to God and Canada through membership in the Catholic Women's League of Canada has brought women into the light of God's love for all. We can go nowhere but forward to bring enrichment to the spiritual and corporal life of our parishes and their parishioners. The Catholic Women's League of Canada approved the formation of the Nova Scotia Provincial Council on February 25, 1948.
Message from our President...
Welcome to the Nova Scotia Provincial Website
December 7 and 8, 2011, saw the dissolution of the Archdiocese of Halifax and Diocese
of Yarmouth. Since the CWL falls under the jurisdiction of the diocese, this necessitated
the dissolution of the Halifax Diocesan Council and the Yarmouth Diocesan Council. In
order to bring these councils together, a formation meeting which included the executives
of the former councils and their spiritual advisors was held on January 22, 2012, at St.
Clement’s Church Hall in Dartmouth. Danielle McNeil-Hessian was also in attendance as
National Chairperson of Laws. I chaired the meeting and the steps outlined in our National
Policy and Procedure Manual on creating a new diocesan council were followed. At the
conclusion of the meeting it was unanimously agreed that these two former councils would
now become known as the Halifax-Yarmouth Diocesan Council The first convention for
this new council will take place on May 6, 2012, at St. Benedict’s Church, Halifax, with the
election and installation of officers for the new executive.
Nova Scotia now has two diocesan councils (Antigonish Diocesan Council and Halifax-
Yarmouth Diocesan Council). As of December 31, 2011, we have 4,802 members across
the province.
Although there have been many challenges over the past two years in our church, our
membership remains strong. Our members are truly women of faith and hope centred on
faith and justice. We look forward to continuing the great work we do in our parishes,
communities and our province.
Thank you and God bless,
Mary MacDonald
Nova Scotia Provincial President
