Women of Peace and Hope to gather for 62nd Annual Provincial CWL Convention

Yarmouth, Nova Scotia – May 3, 2010:  St. Ambrose Council of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada will play host to the 62nd Provincial Convention of the Nova Scotia Provincial Council from June 4 to 6.  Approximately 175 women from across Nova Scotia will gather to celebrate faith, foster friendships and discuss issues and concerns through resolutions.  Janice Peddle, Nova Scotia Provincial Council President, notes that the event will bring together Catholic women who will share and celebrate the League’s theme, Women of Peace and Hope.  All members throughout Nova Scotia are invited to attend the convention.

The weekend event will begin on Friday, June 5th with a Pre-Convention Executive Meeting hosted by St. Ambrose Council.  On Saturday and Sunday, a celebration of the Eucharist will take place at St. Ambrose Cathedral. The Saturday celebration will recall in a special way League members and Spiritual Advisors in Nova Scotia who have passed away since the last convention.  Each day, members will also gather to share and pray through the morning and afternoon Spiritual Programs.  All business sessions on Saturday will take place at the Rodd Grand Hotel and Resort.  On Sunday, the business sessions will resume at the St. Ambrose Parish Centre Marian Hall.  Both venues are located in the Town of Yarmouth.

This year’s theme development presentation will be facilitated by National CWL President, Danielle McNeil Hessian of Bedford, Nova Scotia.  The League’s theme, Women of Peace and Hope encourages and engages members to be beacons of peace and hope to others.  A dynamic speaker, Ms. McNeil Hessian’s message to the delegates will, no doubt, provide opportunity to reflect, discover and renew efforts of League members within Nova Scotia and throughout Canada.

Throughout the weekend, opportunities will exist for all members to dialogue and collaborate on the business sessions and through resolutions.  Resolutions are a response and call to action on many issues which affect society.  Through resolutions, policies may be established, programs planned, or concerns and views expressed to Government at each level.  In addition, each Standing Committee Chairperson will discuss efforts and initiatives with convention delegates.

On Saturday evening, a Gala Banquet will take place at the Rodd Grand Hotel, followed by local entertainment.  Life Memberships in National Council will be presented to two members who have met the established criteria for this great honor.

The election of officers for the 2010-2012 term will take place on Sunday morning, followed by the Installation ceremony at the Sunday Eucharist celebration.

St. Ambrose CWL President, Carol LeBlanc notes that members have been busy planning and are looking forward to providing opportunities to come together on League matters and to celebrate Nova Scotia’s South Shore hospitality.

The Catholic Women’s League of Canada is a national organization rooted in gospel values calling its members to holiness through service to the people of God.  Throughout Nova Scotia, there are approximately 5100 members who support 85 parishes and represent the Dioceses of Antigonish, Halifax and Yarmouth.
